Approximation of continuity of lenticular Mesaverde sandstone lenses

Mesaverde Group sandstone units in 13 closely-spaced wells in the central and southern Piceance Basin of Colorado were correlated utilizing wireline log response quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on these correlations, the environmental subdivisions of the Mesaverde Group were characterized as follows. Paralic (upper mixed-marine) zone, occurring in the uppermost Mesaverde, includes thick sandstone units which are interpreted to be regionally continuous. Fluvial zone, containing point-bars 20 to 30+ ft thick, is interpreted to be correlatable to a maximum of 6800 ft. Paludal zone, which has insufficient data to adequately characterize the sand units. However, 63 percent of the units are correlatable across at least 139 ft. An approximation of the dimensional characteristics of Mesaverde sandstone units has potential applications in designing hydraulic fracturing treatments and estimating gas reserves more accurately. 16 figures, 2 tables

Each 10km grid contains information about the coal basin formation below. Attributes associated with each 10km grid are (with (Units, Attribute name) after): Partnership name (PARTNERSHIP), Resource/formation name (RESOURCE_Name), Resource area (square meters, RSC_AREA_C ), CO2 capacity estimate volumes (in metric tons per feature): vol_low (P10), vol_med (P50), and vol_high (P90) (based on Goodman et al. 2011), Depth to top of formation from surface - reported as "0" for all, meaning not reported (feet, depth_ft), Formation mean thickness (feet, thickness_), Assessed (1= yes, 0= volume estimates not made) Layer should be used in ArcGIS to view. All attributes for the layer and units are described above. Please note: not all grids have been assessed for storage estimates. National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD): Hydrologic Unit Code 10-Digit Basins of Washington StateSource

The Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) is a comprehensive aggregated collection of hydrologic unit data consistent with the national criteria for delineation and resolution. It defines the areal extent of surface water drainage to a point except in coastal or lake front areas where there could be multiple outlets as stated by the "Federal Standards and Procedures for the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD)" “Standard” (http://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/11/a3/). Watershed boundaries are determined solely upon science-based hydrologic principles, not favoring any administrative boundaries or special projects, nor particular program or agency. This dataset represents the hydrologic unit boundaries to the 12-digit (6th level) for the entire United States. Some areas may also include additional subdivisions representing the 14- and 16-digit hydrologic unit (HU). At a minimum, the HUs are delineated at 1:24,000-scale in the conterminous United States, 1:25,000-scale in Hawaii, Pacific basin and the Caribbean, and 1:63,360-scale in Alaska, meeting the National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS). Higher resolution boundaries are being developed where partners and data exist and will be incorporated back into the WBD. WBD data are delivered as a dataset of polygons and corresponding lines that define the boundary of the polygon. WBD polygon attributes include hydrologic unit codes (HUC), size (in the form of acres and square kilometers), name, downstream hydrologic unit code, type of watershed, non-contributing areas, and flow modifications. The HUC describes where the unit is in the country and the level of the unit. WBD line attributes contain the highest level of hydrologic unit for each boundary, line source information and flow modifications.

Reservoir heterogeneity in carboniferous sandstone of the Black Warrior basin. Final report

Although oil production in the Black Warrior basin of Alabama is declining, additional oil may be produced through improved recovery strategies, such as waterflooding, chemical injection, strategic well placement, and infill drilling. High-quality characterization of reservoirs in the Black Warrior basin is necessary to utilize advanced technology to recover additional oil and to avoid premature abandonment of fields. This report documents controls on the distribution and producibility of oil from heterogeneous Carboniferous reservoirs in the Black Warrior basin of Alabama. The first part of the report summarizes the structural and depositional evolution of the Black Warrior basin and establishes the geochemical characteristics of hydrocarbon source rocks and oil in the basin. This second part characterizes facies heterogeneity and petrologic and petrophysical properties of Carter and Millerella sandstone reservoirs. This is followed by a summary of oil production in the Black Warrior basin and an evaluation of seven improved-recovery projects in Alabama. In the final part, controls on the producibility of oil from sandstone reservoirs are discussed in terms of a scale-dependent heterogeneity classification.

Salish Sea basin boundarySource

AbstractThe basin delineation was initially derived using standard watershed tools and DEM's (from NOAA). The computer generated watershed boundary was then manually edited via visual interpretation using topo maps, the DEM files and other watershed boundary maps (notably from the Sea Doc Society). The majority of the editing was in smoothing the original watershed boundary as the auto generated basin was far too detailed for the scale of the map. The smoothing process also removed the ‘raster’ artifacts. For the Salish Sea map the intent was just to show the general boundary as a smooth line that visually follows the topography. Again, the emphasis was for an easy to understand cartographic representation of the basin at a fairly coarse scale, not for exact hydrologic analysis.PurposeFor the purposes of this map & dataset, the Salish Sea was defined as including: Puget Sound, Desolation Sound (note, some BC definitions exclude Desolation Sound), Strait of Juan de Fuca (to the mouth of the Pacific Ocean), Strait of Georgia (which I defined as extending to Johnstone Strait).  The Salish Sea polygon and corresponding Basin boundary files were derived for use at approximately 1:1,500,000 (e.g., Salish Sea Map, 2009, http://staff.wwu.edu/stefan/SalishSea.htm).Data creditStefan Freelan, 2009 stefan@wwu.edu 360-650-2949Institute for Spatial Information and AnalysisHuxley College of the Environment, Western Washington UniversityBellingham, WA 98225-9085http://staff.wwu.edu/stefan/SalishSea.htm

Publications includes papers and books related to water conflict and/or cooperation, with links to download. Map and Image Gallery features maps and images for download created by current and former students and faculty, as well as collaborating partners. Useful Resources and External Links is a list of related water conflict and cooperation websites. Wide use of electronic and hardcopy versions of data, GIS coverages, and findings produced by the Transboundary Freshwater Dispute Database (TFDD) project is encouraged. Tularosa Basin Play Fairway Analysis: Weights of Evidence; Mineralogy, and Temperature Anomaly MapsSource

This submission has two shapefiles and a tiff image. The weights of evidence analysis was applied to data representing heat of the earth and fracture permeability using training sites around the Southwest; this is shown in the tiff image. A shapefile of surface temperature anomalies was derived from the statistical analysis of Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) thermal infrared data which had been converted to surface temperatures; these anomalies have not been field checked. The second shapefile shows outcrop mineralogy which originally mapped by the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, and supplemented with mineralogic information related to rock fracability risk for EGS. Further metadata can be found within each file.

Tularosa Basin Play Fairway: Weights of Evidence ModelsSource

These models are related to weights of evidence play fairway anlaysis of the Tularosa Basin, New Mexico and Texas. They were created through Spatial Data Modeler: ArcMAP 9.3 geoprocessing tools for spatial data modeling using weights of evidence, logistic regression, fuzzy logic and neural networks. It used to identify high values for potential geothermal plays and low values. The results are relative not only within the Tularosa Basin, but also throughout New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, and other places where high to moderate enthalpy geothermal systems are present (training sites).
