Atlantic Margin Licensing Round 2015Source

Licensing rounds awarded by the Petroleum Affairs Division (PAD) in the Irish Atlantic Margin. The 2015 licensing round includes three regions. The Irish Atlantic Margin geographic coverage includes foreshore and offshore waters in what is known as the Currently Designated Irish Continental Shelf. Licensing awarded in 2015. PAD awarded licences to oil and gas exploration companies via licensing options upon application. The role in the Petroleum Affairs Division is to maximise the benefits to the State from exploration for and production (E%amp;P) of indigenous oil and gas resources. In doing this PAD ensure that activities are conducted with due regard to their impact on the environment and other land/sea users through appropriate licensing.

The majority of GCR sites, therefore, now have statutory protection through designation as notified features in SSSIs. In these cases the GCR site boundary indicates the extent of the Earth science interest within the SSSI. Some GCR sites, however, remain unnotified and are known as unnotified GCR sites. National Park Authorities and some Local Authorities treat these as candidate SSSIs and afford them the same protection as SSSIs. Some unnotified GCR sites are also Local Geodiversity Sites (LGS), and as such they are afforded levels of protection appropriate to locally important sites (though they are, themselves, considered to be of national or international importance).The remaining unnotified GCR sites have no statutory protection, although they are considered to be sites of national or international importance. Initially developed between 1977 and 1990, the GCR network is periodically updated and this dataset is subject to change. This is a spatial dataset that describes the geographic extent and location of areas that are listed under Limestone Pavement Orders. Limestone pavements are outcrops of limestone where the surface has been worn away by natural means over millennia. These rocks have the appearance of paving blocks, hence their name. Not only do they have geological interest, they also provide valuable habitats for wildlife. These habitats are threatened due to their removal for use in gardens and water features. Many limestone pavements have been designated as SSSIs which affords them some protection. In addition, Section 34 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 gave them additional protection via the creation of Limestone Pavement Orders, which made it a criminal offence to remove any part of the outcrop. The associated Limestone Pavement Priority Habitat is part of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan priority habitat in England. This is published separately. Full metadata can be viewed on data.gov.uk.

NMBGMR Subsurface Library

New Mexico has a rich legacy of petroleum and mineral exploration and production, most of which has involved subsurface investigations. Hundreds of thousands of holes have been drilled into the subsurface, some to depths of 20,000 feet or more. Considerable data have been collected from these wells in the form of electrical or geophysical logs, cuttings, and rock cores. These materials contain a rich lode of information about the kinds of rocks that lie below the surface, how porous and permeable they are, and even what types of fluids they contain. Part of the Mission of New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources is to serve as a repository for these kinds of data. Data in our collections have been acquired from wells drilled throughout the state over the last 90 years. We currently have more than 15 million pieces of unique subsurface data in our collections, much of it stored in seven steel storage buildings on campus. Pacific Northwest Channel Migration Potential (CHAMP)Source

The Channel Migration Potential (CHAMP) layer contains stream networks of Western Washington (and much of Western Oregon) with associated data and information important for assessing channel migration activity. It also features information on channel characteristics such as stream flow and physical dimensions. This data layer’s main feature is a classification of channel migration potential based on channel confinement and erosion potential. The layer was derived from existing statewide geospatial datasets and classified according to channel migration measurements by the High Resolution Change Detection (HRCD) project for the Puget Sound Region (Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2014). While the layer identifies the potential for channel migration, it does not predict channel migration rates. Thus, this data layer should be used to screen and prioritize stream reaches for further channel migration evaluation. The tool helps plan and prioritize floodplain management actions such as Channel Migration Zone mapping, erosion risk reduction, and floodplain restoration. The background, use, and development of the CHAMP layer are fully described in Ecology Publication 15-06-003 (full report citation and URL below). Pennsylvania Spatial Data: Devonian Siltstone Shale Assessment Unit Quarter Mile Cells

From the site: "Cell maps for each oil and gas assessment unit were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, dry, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown. The well information was initially retrieved from the IHS Energy Group, PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data on CD-ROM, which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the U.S. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying proprietary PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data. No proprietary data are displayed or included in the cell maps. The data from PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data were current as of October 2001 when the cell maps were created in 2002."

From the site: "The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a set of known or postulated oil and (or) gas accumulations sharing similar geologic, geographic, and temporal properties within the Total Petroleum System, such as source rock, timing, migration pathways, trapping mechanism, and hydrocarbon type. The Assessment Unit boundary is defined geologically as the limits of the geologic elements that define the Assessment Unit, such as limits of reservoir rock, geologic structures, source rock, and seal lithologies. The only exceptions to this are Assessment Units that border the Federal-State water boundary. In these cases, the Federal-State water boundary forms part of the Assessment Unit boundary."

Pennsylvania Spatial Data: Marcellus Shale Assessment Unit Quarter Mile Cells

From the site: "Cell maps for each oil and gas assessment unit were created by the USGS as a method for illustrating the degree of exploration, type of production, and distribution of production in an assessment unit or province. Each cell represents a quarter-mile square of the land surface, and the cells are coded to represent whether the wells included within the cell are predominantly oil-producing, gas-producing, both oil and gas-producing, dry, or the type of production of the wells located within the cell is unknown. The well information was initially retrieved from the IHS Energy Group, PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data on CD-ROM, which is a proprietary, commercial database containing information for most oil and gas wells in the U.S. Cells were developed as a graphic solution to overcome the problem of displaying proprietary PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data. No proprietary data are displayed or included in the cell maps. The data from PI/Dwights PLUS Well Data were current as of October 2001 when the cell maps were created in 2002."

Petroleum Exploration Production Current Authorisations Onshore & Offshore IrelandSource

This dataset identifies the location of current petroleum exploration and production authorisations as issued by the Minister for the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment under the Petroleum and Other Minerals Development Act, 1960. Authorisation types included in this dataset are as follows: 1. Licensing Option (issued under Section 7 (1) of the 1960 Act): This is a non exclusive licence giving the holder the first right, exercisable at any time during the period of the Option, to an Exploration Licence over all or part of the area covered by the Option. 2. Exploration Licence (issued under Section 8 (1) of the 1960 Act): There are three categories of Exploration: a Standard Exploration Licence for water depths up to 200m; a Deepwater Exploration Licence for water depths exceeding 200m and a Frontier Exploration Licence for areas so specified by the Minister. For Standard and Deepwater Explorations Licences the holder is obliged to carry out a work programme which must include the drilling of a least one exploration well in the first phase. For a Frontier Exploration Licence the holder mustcommit to at least one exploration well in order to proceed to the second phase. The area of an Exploration Licence shall be expressed in terms of blocks and/or part blocks of the Williams Grid. 3. Lease undertaking (issued under Section 10 (1) of the 1960 Act): When a discovery is made in a licensed area and the licensee is not in a position to declare the discovery commercial during the period of the licence but expects to be able to do so in the foreseeable future, the licensee may apply for a Lease Undertaking. This is an undertaking by the Minister, subject to certain conditions, to grant a Petroleum Lease at a stated future date. The holder of a Lease Undertaking is required to hold a Petroleum Prospecting Licence which will govern activities under the Lease Undertaking. 4. Petroleum Lease (issued under Section 13 (1) of the 1960 Act): When a commercial discovery has been established it will be the duty of the authorisation holder to notify the Minister and apply for a Petroleum Lease with a view to its development. 5. Reserved Area Licence (issued under Section 19 (1) of the 1960 Act): A Petroleum Lease holder may apply for a reserved area licence in respect of an area adjacent to or surrounding the leased area and which is not subject of an authorisation other than a Petroleum Prospecting Licence. Terms and conditions, including environmental provisions, are attached to the above mentioned authorisations. These licensing terms are set out in the Departments Licensing Terms For Offshore Oil And Gas Exploration, Development & Production 2007.

Puget Sound Feeder Bluffs and Coastal LandformsSource

These maps delineate the entire Puget Sound shoreline by geomorphic type. The primary purpose of the mapping was to identify feeder bluffs, eroding shorelines that are important to maintaining nearby beaches. Knowledge of the distribution of these features can be used by local planners and resource agencies to better manage Puget Sound shorelines. The study emphasized mapping of coastal bluffs, but also extended to a wide range of other coastal landforms, including rocky shores, river deltas, and small lagoons and estuaries. Sand and Gravel DepositsSource

This dataset is a statewide polygon coverage of sand, gravel, and stone resources. This database includes the best data available from the VT Agency of Natural Resources and VTrans quadrangle maps where sand and gravel locations are noted. Sources are maps from "Geology for Environmental Planning" booklets prepared by Charles G. Doll in the 1970's, the data were derived from USGS sources. VCGI expects that this data will be updated and added to by other sources, but it is the most complete/accurate data available to us at this time.

Shoreline Drift CellsSource

Littoral drift, or shore drift, is the process by which beach sediment is moved along the shoreline. Drift results primarily from the oblique approach of wind-generated waves and can therefore change in response to short-term (daily, weekly, or seasonally) shifts in wind direction. Over the long term, however, many shorelines exhibit a single direction of net shore drift. Net shore-drift is determined through geomorphologic analysis of beach sediment patterns and of coastal landforms. Many shorelines can be divided into discrete littoral, or drift, cells, which are independent of one another and for which distinct sediment sources and sinks can be identified. This coverage denotes the extent of individual littoral cells and the direction of net shore-drift within each.

Shoreline Slope StabilitySource

The digital maps presented here were originally published as hard copy maps in the Coastal Zone Atlas of Washington between 1978 and 1980. Although the Atlas has been out of print for many years, the maps contain information that remain the basis for local planning decisions. After receiving multiple requests for electronic versions of portions of the Atlas, an effort was made to scan, georeference and digitize aspects of the Atlas, beginning with the slope stability maps. These maps indicate the relative stability of coastal slopes as interpreted by geologists based on aerial photographs, geological mapping, topography, and field observations. Such methods are standard, but may occasionally result in some unstable areas being overlooked and in some stable areas being incorrectly identified as unstable. Further inaccuracies are introduced to the data through the process of converting the published maps into digital format. Important land use or building decisions should always be based on detailed geotechnical investigations. This mapping represents conditions observed in the early and mid-1970s. Shorelines and steep slopes are dynamic areas and many landslides have occurred since that time that are not reflected on these maps. Subsequent human activities may have increased or decreased the stability of some areas.

The Geologic Atlas of the United States is a set of 227 folios published by the U.S. Geological Survey between 1894 and 1945. Each folio includes both topographic and geologic maps for each quad represented in that folio, as well as description of the basic and economic geology of the area. Includes a link to a Google Earth overlay which includes links to sites with raster information as well as a map on the webpage with the links present. A viewer can use the links displayed on page (inside numbers) to be led to sites with lists/catalogs of downloadable data. Includes JPEG, TIFF, and GIS data.

Polygons in the dataset represent as much as possible (in a limited area) of the physical diversity in each of the state's 8 biophysical regions (BPRs)-- hence the name "representative landscapes" (RLs). Units of physical diversity were based on elevation, bedrock type, surficial deposits, and landform. Numbers of unique landscape diversity unit labels occurring in the 8 BPRs ranged from 586 to 956. Percent of diversity units represented in the RL polygons in this dataset ranged from a low of 74% (in 25% of the Champlain Valley BPR) to 87% (in 23% of the Northern Piedmont BPR). The most efficient repesentations were in the Northeastern Highlands and the Champlain Valley, where 83% and 81% (respectively) of the landscape diversity units occurring in the BPRs were represented in 17% of the BPR area.
