To study LCM transportation and settling behavior, mud samples were mixed in the high temperature flow loop by adding each LCM to a base fluid that consists of water and a viscosifier to carry and suspend the LCM particles. Different parameters were considered in the experiments, such as concentration, temperature, flow rate, pipe rotation speed, and inclination angle.

Rheology experiments were performed using different LCMs to study their effect on fluid rheology and wellbore hydraulics. The rheology data obtained from the high temperature flow loop was analyzed to determine the rheology model that fits the data.

The sealing performance of different LCM was tested using different fracture sizes. The LCMs used are shape memory polymer, calcium carbonate, walnut, and cedar fiber. The fractured discs were designed and prepared using a 3D printer. The experiments were performed at 310℉ using the high-temperature flow loop under dynamic conditions.

The rheology screening experiments aimed to evaluate the performance of different additives to be used as viscosifier for the base fluid. Different fluid formulations were prepared in the lab by adding the additives individually to tap water in various concentrations (1 to 5 lb/bbl). These additives are PAC-L, THERMA-CHEK, POLYAC PLUS, and THERMA-VIS.
