The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) aims at the establishment of an enabling environment for renewable energy and energy efficiency investments and markets within the ECOWAS region. It is a specialized agency based in Cabo Verde which coordinates and executes regional programs, projects and activities in the areas of capacity and policy development, information and data sharing, as well as investment and business promotion.

The ECOWAS Observatory for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECOWREX) is a web-based information platform established by ECREEE to address poor data quality and information pertaining to the energy sector in the ECOWAS region at the same time providing decision makers, project developers, investors and other stakeholders with tailored energy information and planning tool.

This data-set shows sub-areas (sub-catchments) for West Africa and the estimated hydro-power potential as well as several other interesting attributes for hydro power development and climate change projections and impact on hydro power potential.

The data-set is one of the outputs of a complete assessment of the hydro-power potential for all west African rivers implemented by ECREEE under the framework of the small hydro-power program. For more information please visit http://www.ecowrex.org/smallhydro
