Overviewgreening planvegetation
The i-Tree Canopy tool was used to photo-interpret tree canopy and other land cover classes using available Google Maps imagery and estimate the area of each class using a point sampling method. All 50 suburbs within the Maitland LGA were individually assessed. The resultant tree canopy map shows estimated tree canopy cover >3m high, including native and exotic tree species and orchards. The data is presented by suburb for the Maitland LGA for the 2015-16 period based on the available Google Maps imagery. This tree canopy dataset has been developed to be statistically comparable with those other LGAs assessed by the Benchmarking Australia's Urban Tree Canopy 2014 report (Jacobs et al 2014).
